Agartala: Nationalised banks of Tripura have started verifying the account details of Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) operational in different branches across the state.
With the closure of West Bengal based NBFC Sarada Group, Ministry of Finance has asked all the banks to monitor the operation, status and detail of the account holders of the companies, officials said here on Thursday.
Meantime, ministry also advised all the state governments to be strict against NBFC and keep a close watch on their activities, which prompted the state govt to enforce the law related to safe guarding the depositors Tripura Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishment) Act 2000.
However, opposition Congress has demanded to list out the status paper of NBFCs functioning in the state including license details to facilitate the common depositors to understand and decide to withdraw their amount before it chits them.
“The state govt is having a separate law but for an unknown reason the Act is not being implemented, which reflects the state govt’s attitude towards NBFCs and chit fund,” said MLA and former leader of the opposition Ratan Lal Nath. (UNI)
