SHILLONG, June 28: Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, who also holds the PWD portfolio, said the total estimated loss due to damages to roads and bridges in the rain-induced floods and landslides in the state is not less than Rs 165 crore.
Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma sought a relief package of Rs 300 crore from the Centre based on a preliminary estimate.
“We have already submitted the details of the assessment made by the PWD to the Revenue and Disaster Management department,” Tynsong told journalists on Tuesday.
He said he does not have the minute details of the bridges and the roads damaged or washed away.
He said two inter-ministerial teams from Delhi arrived in Shillong and Tura on Tuesday evening. The teams will visit different areas to assess the damages, he added.
Earlier, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Kyrmen Shylla had stated Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management department, Matsiewdor War Nongbri would be deputed to coordinate with the central team that will visit Garo Hills. Similarly, Joint Secretary, Ibashisha Mawlong will coordinate with the other team that will assess the damages in Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
Shylla had also said that the department will prepare a preliminary damage report and place it before the teams. The Deputy Commissioners concerned were asked to identify the worst-hit areas and infrastructure for inspection by the teams.
