SHILLONG: Police have claimed that the miscreants involved in torching of the Government vehicle (Bolero-ML01 6113) allotted to the Divisional Forest Officer of the Forest department, R Nainama Mallai at Forest Colony recently have been identified.

Following raids carried out in different localities of Mawlai on Saturday morning, police said the persons involved in last week’s arson have gone into hiding.

“Police will make all attempts to arrest the criminals”, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang said here on Saturday.

When asked whether the identified miscreants are members of the KSU, Kharkrang said that no such information could be divulged till the arrest of the miscreants.

It may be mentioned that stray incidents took place in the city on Wednesday last following the arrest of two KSU leaders, Johnny Lyngdoh and Teiborlang Nongbri for their alleged role in the incidents of vandalism during the the Khasi National Awakening Day at Laitumkhrah on April 4.

A similar incident took place on Friday evening

when unknown miscreants set on fire a Government vehicle (Bolero ML-01-1886) allotted to Arnel Marbaniang, Director of Economics and Statistics, Meghalaya inside the office campus at Lower Lachumiere.

Incidentally, the incident took place on Friday evening, a day set by the KSU as the deadline for the state government to release its members.

The KSU is likely to meet on Monday to decide on its future course of action on the matter.
