Hertha Berlin suspend goalkeeper Jarstein
Berlin, Aug 14: Goalkeeper Rune Jarstein appears to be heading for the exit after eight years at Hertha Berlin having been suspended by the Bundesliga club following a dispute with goalkeeping coach Andreas Menger. “Something happened that is not part of the normal day,” Hertha chief executive Fredi Bobic said Friday. “It was a bit more intense. We had a conversation on Friday. “After the conversation, we took Rune out of the squad for the reasons of how the conversation was and how it went.” Jarstein was not included in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt and appears set to leave the club despite his contract running to the end of the season. Bandipur Tuskers defeat Kodagu Tigers at GPBL
Bengaluru, Aug 14: Bandipur Tuskers clinched three points from the final match of their Grand Prix Badminton League (GPBL) tie against Kodagu Tigers to move up to fourth place on the leaderboard at the Karnataka Badminton Association, on Sunday. Koadagu Tigers fielded Rujula Ramu in their opening match (women’s singles). The youngster handed two points to her team, beating Alifya Riyas. The doubles duo of Abhisehk Yeligar and Vaibhav V then restored parity, winning their trump match (men’s doubles). Abhishek Yeligar put Tuskers ahead in the men’s singles but the mixed pair of Saneeth Dayanand and Ramya Venkatesh levelled it for the Tigers. Bandipur then won the Super Match comfortably to garner three points. (UNI)

Halep beats Pegula to advance to Toronto final
Toronto, Aug 14: Two-time champion Simona Halep of Romania advanced to the National Bank Open’s final, beating Jessica Pegula of the United States 2-6 6-3 6-4. Halep will face Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia, a 6-4 7-6 (7) winner over 14th-seeded Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic in the night semifinal. Halep smashed a racket on the hard court at Sobeys Stadium after she missed a return late in the third set. The 15th-seeded Halep won the tournament in Montreal in 2016 and 2018. Pegula was seeded seventh. Haddad Maia reached her first WTA Masters event final. (AP)
