SHILLONG, Aug 16: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said the state government is awaiting the reports on peace talks with proscribed HNLC from its interlocutor as well as the central observer.
He told reporters the state government would want to expedite the peace process.
Asked about the hoisting of HNLC flag at the bridge near Jingthang Briew, Jaiaw, Tynsong said this could be the act of an individual who already had the flag. “It is not an issue which we are too concerned about,” he said.
The National People’s Party national vice president said there will not be any tussle for party tickets for the 2023 Assembly elections. He said the party has completed the exercise of deciding on its candidates in almost all 60 seats. He said the party is working towards having consensus candidates.
“The other political parties are facing a problem in deciding on their candidates,” Tynsong claimed.
To a query, he said the Urban Affairs department is yet to submit the blueprint on the shifting of the residents of Harijan Colony at Them Iew Mawlong.
“I recently had a meeting with Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to discuss this matter. I was informed the department is still preparing the blueprint,” Tynsong said.
The government had asked the department to identify some more locations besides the land behind RP Chest Hospital at Mawbah.
On the second phase of boundary talks with Assam, he said the state government will have to adopt the first phase strategy.
The two chief ministers will need to meet to discuss and then, constitute the regional committees on the remaining six areas of differences, he added.
