SHILLONG, Dec 7: Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh has accentuated the need to preserve the living root bridges for the benefit of the community.
While inaugurating the second Living Root Bridge Festival 2022 at Tyrna village here on Wednesday, he said the presence of the living root bridges has helped promote tourism in Meghalaya.
Lyngdoh also said the living root bridges indirectly help in providing livelihood and employment opportunities to the locals.
It may be mentioned that the festival, which conincides with Quasquicentennial (125 years) celebration of Tyrna Elaka, is being jointly organised by Indian Tourism Shillong, Special Purpose Vehicle Society and Directorate of Tourism.
It is worth mentioning here that the living root bridge in Tyrna is the second-longest root bridge in the state with a length of around 85 feet.
