SHILLONG, Dec 11: With Assembly elections around the corner, suspended Congress MLA from East Shillong Ampareen Lyngdoh on Sunday opined that coalition governments have not been productive in Meghalaya.
“Wish to see Meghalaya not fragmenting into 10-11 parties, resulting in a fragmented mandate post elections. Coalitions aren’t productive as seen in the 2008 and 2018 elections. The government of 2013 yielded better governance,” Lyngdoh said.
Hinting that she would prefer to consolidate with a state party, Lyngdoh said the same in an ongoing trend across the country.
“In 1972, our own state party consolidated and Meghalaya was born. I will try to revisit a similar consolidation within a party which is of the state,” Lyngdoh said, without confirming her plans to join the National People’s Party (NPP).
Expressing her desire to see the political leaders working together for the interest of the state, she also contended that all parties have their own positives and negatives.
