SHILLONG, Jan 27: The TMC on Friday assured the people that it would “walk the talk” and implement its ‘10 pledges’ made in the party manifesto.
“Meghalaya TMC takes pride in declaring that we launched the manifesto before other parties. For everyone who thinks about what we will do after forming the government in the state, we have promised 10 pledges covering education, health, infrastructure, opportunities for the traders, and other signature initiatives,” he told a gathering in Tikrikilla.
Taking a jibe at the MDA for running a puppet government, Sangma said, “This NPP-led MDA Government is being run by those sitting in Delhi. From February 27, we will use our powers to unite and govern this beautiful hill state based on law and order with a sheer understanding of the necessities and concerns of every household of Meghalaya.”
In another event in Resubelpara, Sangma urged the people of the state to join hands and ensure the holistic welfare of Meghalaya.
“The purpose of an elected representative is to build a state where people can live in peace and future generations live without worry or hassle. This is our state and we need to come forward with a united front to run our state. We have all been victims of the nefarious NPP-led MDA regime. One should use the knowledge given by God to discern and choose who should be elected. One should prevision the consequences that will transpire in the future if we do not unite our state now,” Sangma said, while issuing earnest appeals for ‘unity and oneness’.
“We all saw what happened in last five years. Land belonging to Garos is given to Assam. We are the witnesses of the tears and grief of an elderly Garo woman,” he added. Sangma also lambasted the NPP Government for terming the revolutionary WE Card and MYE Card – as “baaki” cards.
He said, “We have promised to provide guaranteed income support for women. Some parties have raised questions on how and from where will we give this money. If you wanted to know, join Meghalaya TMC and we will clarify everything.”
Meanwhile, TMC vice president George B Lyngdoh on Friday asserted that the party was the only viable option for the people with the Congress dwindling in the state and people being subjected to misrule under the NPP-led MDA coalition.
“We have faced hardships under this NPP-led MDA rule, where our voices were neither heard nor heeded. People sitting in Delhi are ruling over us and their desires are forcefully pushed upon us,” Lyngdoh said.
Lyngdoh said leaders from Congress were quitting the grand old party. “Only five Congress leaders remain in the party, while all others have quit. The remaining leaders will also jump ship soon. Meghalaya TMC is the only credible alternative to oppose BJP.”
