SHILLONG, Feb 16: NPP on Thursday said the MDA constituents are fighting their own battle to win the elections and therefore, the attacks against each other are just another professional hazard they will have to deal with.
“Although we work in a coalition, we are now fighting independently. Therefore, they have the right to speak against anybody. We fight our own battle and they fight theirs,” NPP spokesperson and Williamnagar MLA, Marcuise N Marak said.
The MDA constituents are going after one another as they try to portray themselves as the party that stands for the people and pass the buck of alleged misgovernance, corruption, and irregularities to one another despite being in the government.
Marak said it is only obvious that the NPP is targeted as it is the strongest and “most popular” of the lot which is returning to power. The attacks on the NPP are just rhetoric, fuelled by insecurity and frustration, he claimed.
“People will prove the NPP has worked for them. We will come out with flying colours,” he said confidently.
Claiming that the NPP wave is growing by the day, he said the widow of Jonathan Sangma, who was assassinated in the 2018 elections, has joined his (Marak’s) camp.
“She has joined my camp. With her joining, four-five candidates of the last election are supporting my candidature in Williamnagar. It shows people have trust in the NPP and are waiting for February 27 to vote for the party,” he asserted.
