NEHU VC talks research work on NE’s medicinal plants with Sonowal

SHILLONG, March 29: North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar on Wednesday called on Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in the national capital to confer about matters relating to the research work being undertaken in the university on the medicinal plants found in the Northeastern region, especially the state of Meghalaya.
According to a statement, the VC, in an hour-long discussion, informed the union minister about the rich biodiversity of Meghalaya and how the researchers, under the guidance of the faculty of the NEHU, are working tirelessly on various medicinal plants and herbs.
The discussion also included the possibility of boosting the economy of Meghalaya by encouraging medical tourism and the participation of the youths in helping to achieve the same goal.
During the meeting, Prof. Shukla also invited Sonowal to visit the NEHU campus for a one-on-one interaction with the university students.
Earlier in the day, the VC had attended the first meeting of the governing body of North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy (NEIAH), which was chaired by the minister.
