SHILLONG, April 8: Three-day Shad Suk Mynsiem, the annual festival of the Seng Khasi Kmie, commenced on Saturday at the Lympung Weiking, Jaiaw, with men, women and children, all dressed in traditional attires, taking part in the thanksgiving dance.
Known as “the dance of peaceful hearts”, Shad Suk Mynsiem is a significant festival among the Khasis, celebrated in the month of April every year. The first day of the festival is also known as ‘Shad Nohkjat’.
Before proceeding towards Madan Weiking, there was a gathering of the members of the Jylli Pyrkhat Kam (JPK) and the dancers at the hall of the Seng Khasi Kmie at Mawkhar.
A small gathering was also organised, which was presided by Seng Khasi Kmie assistant general secretary, Paia B Synrem, while its general secretary, Hainess Marbaniang, led the prayer before proceeding to Weiking.
Seng Khasi Kmie vice president, O Pyngrope, unfurled the Seng Khasi flag in the presence of the followers of the organisation.
After this, dancers, of various ages, gathered to perform the Shad Nohkjat.
Earlier in the day, Seng Khihlang also released its song at State Central Library which was arranged and composed by Daminot band.
The song was released by Seng Khihlang president H. Robin Kurbah in the presence of the members of the band.
It may be mentioned that the Seng Khihlang will organise its 33rd annual festival ‘Seng Khasi Kyrphei’ at Tyrsad Pyllun, East Khasi Hills, from April 14 to 16.
