SHILLONG, April 10: Curtain came down on the three-day Shad Suk Mynsiem festival on Monday with an impressive display of enthusiasm by the Khasi men and women who participated in the thanksgiving dance.
Known as “the dance of peaceful hearts”, Shad Suk Mynsiem is a significant festival among the Khasis, celebrated in the month of April every year.
The first day of the festival saw the participation of 270 dancers, which only increased on the second day with the participation of 529 dancers.
Hundreds of people belonging to the ‘Niam Khasi’ or ‘Seng Khasi’, including young and old, took part in the festival at Weiking Ground, Jaiaw, which reverberated with the beats of drums and tangmuri.
Chairman of the Publicity Committee of Seng Khasi for Shad Suk Mynsiem, Bantei Sing Rumnong, while sending a message to Niam Khasi and Niamtre, said they should constantly and continuously strive to follow their belief.
Others who were part of the concluding ceremony include Governor Phagu Chauhan, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, VPP MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang, former MLA Samlin Malngiang, among others.
