SHILLONG, April 11: The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) is waiting for Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to hold a review meeting to rectify its lacunae and address the shortfalls to ensure delivery of services effectively.
The team is said to be experiencing a shortfall of manpower and machinery.
“Whatever loopholes that are there when it comes to disaster management we will have a review meeting soon and will highlight the shortfall in manpower and the machineries required,” Minister in charge of Disaster Management, Kyrmen Shylla, said on Tuesday.
Without divulging much details, he said, “We will have a discussion on whatever is required and then I believe the government will also listen and we will be able to do justice.”
With regard to the surge in COVID-19 cases in different parts of the country and the readiness of the State Disaster Team to deal with any emergency, he said, “…we have always extended our support since Covid was declared a disaster”.
He expressed confidence in the team assigned with attending to disasters inspite of the manpower crisis, and said, “…our endeavour will be to save lives,” he added.
