SHILLONG: The CID which was entrusted to complete the task of following up CM Jha University case, has come under the scanner for its shoddy approach on the matter.
It was learnt that the Meghalaya Governor Dr KK Paul is worried about the present state of affairs following the Supreme Court order regarding anticipatory bail to the University’s Chancellor, CM Jha.
The CID which is handling the criminal case had come under criticism for its inability to file a caveat which should have prevented any ex-parte judgment by the Supreme Court on the bail application of Jha.
The CID did not seek the opinion of the Law department to file the caveat to prevent any one sided judgment of the Supreme Court.
According to sources, soon after the order of the High Court of Meghalaya which went in favour of the Government, the CID should have foreseen that Jha will file an appeal in the apex court.
“A caveat which prevents ex-parte judgment by the court should have been filed by the CID in this context”, sources added.
However, the law department which handled the civil case had filed a vakalatnama authorizing an advocate to pursue the case.
Following the recent order of the Supreme Court, the Law department asked the CID to challenge the direction of the Court regarding anticipatory bail to Jha as it was an interim order.
