SHILLONG: The assault of church goers by several truck drivers in Bholaganj on Sunday evening has compelled the FKJGP to issue quit notice with a deadline of seven days to the non- indigenous truck drivers and exporters in the area.
The incident took place at 6 pm when the faithful were returning after the church service of the Presbyterian Church at Ymbud under Bholaganj, East Khasi Hills.
After the church goers asked the truck drivers to go slow since there is a large crowd, the truckers got down from the trucks and assaulted them. There were many trucks carrying limestone passing through the area.
According to reports, around 12 people were injured due to the alleged highhandedness of the truck drivers, who also used some sharp weapons.
Concerned over the matter, the FKJGP Information Secretary Eldie Lyngdoh informed that it has served a quit notice to all the non-tribal truck drivers, the exporter identified as P. Das and others to leave the area within seven days.
