SHILLONG, April 23: In keeping with the idea of national integration, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) took out a route march from Keating Road till Cantonment playground amidst tight security here on Sunday.
Braving the sudden spell of rainfall in the city, around 500 Swayamsevaks from Khasi-Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi district took part in the march. The theme of the march was national integration and mutual respect for diverse cultures and traditions of the nation.
The route march was met with a hurdle as it was reportedly disallowed to proceed towards Lower Mawprem. But the march shortly resumed and culminated peacefully.
After the march, Pawnam Sisha Khongsni, East Khasi Hills district secretary, RSS, addressed the gathering of Swayamsevaks at Cantonment playground.
He called upon the youth of the state to come forward to contribute to the development of the state and India.
Khongsni also highlighted the contribution of RSS in the development of the state in the last 50 years, particularly in remote and interior parts of the state.
The RSS district secretary also called upon the general public to see beyond the ‘false narrative’ set by some sections of the media and ‘so-called intelligentsia’ to suit their vested interest, and discover for themselves the real work and contributions of the RSS.
