JOWAI, April 30: The footpaths at Iawmusiang Jowai have been taken over by hawkers putting pedestrians, especially students, at an inconvenience. The long stretch of footpath on both sides of the road from HK Singh School up to the Deputy Commissioner’s office junction is occupied by hawkers selling all sorts of goods and vegetables.
The situation is also precarious for hawkers as they remain too close to traffic which makes them vulnerable in the possible event of an accident. The narrow road is also plagued by illegal parking of vehicles. This troubles drivers and contributes greatly to traffic congestion.
The district administration and the Dorbar Shnong of Iawmusiang have from time to time tried to move the hawkers but in vain.
The delay in completion of Iawamusiang Complex Jowai building is likely the main reason behind the vendors occupying the footpath.
