NONGSTOIN, May 8: Boundary pillars erected by Assam government in the border areas of Noapara and Nongdron in West Khasi Hills were on Monday uprooted by the leaders of FKJGP and KSU West Khasi Hills District Unit.
Stating that border talks between Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his Assam counterpart, Himanta Biswa Sarma are yet to reach the final conclusion, the FKJGP said that the Assam government has, notwithstanding the status quo, gone ahead with erecting boundary pillars in Noapara and Nongdron (Dronpara) within Langpih sector. Speaking to newsmen at Noapara, president of FKJGP West Khasi Hills District Unit, Chandra Nongdkhar, asserted that the move by the Assam government clearly indicates the weakness of the MDA 2.0 Government.
He, therefore, urged the state government to interfere in the matter “before it is too late”.
According to Nongdkhar, the FKJGP and the KSU have sent a strong message to the Assam government that the Garo and Khasi people living in the area have taken care and possessed the lands for generations and they cannot forego it.
The groups encouraged the people to cooperate with them and prevent Assam officials to erect the pillars ‘illegally’.
