Shillong, May 9: In IPL 2023, Nitish Rana was the most recent skipper to receive a fine for an over-rate offence. After the Kolkata Knight Riders captain’s team maintained a slow over rate against the Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, his match earnings were reduced by 12 lakh rupees. It constitutes a transgression of the IPL Code of Conduct.

A statement by IPL read, “Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rana was fined Rs. 12 lakh”.

Rana, though, would be extremely happy with the manner his team played to defeat PBKS in a nail-biting last-ball match and advance in the competition. Additionally, he personally was instrumental in the outcome, returning as the leading scorer with 51 off 38 balls.

On a pitch that was not exactly favourable for batting, the left-hander who came in to bat at No. 3 on Monday blasted six fours and a six in his patient knock.
