Shillong, May 15: The chief of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, DK Shivakumar, and the former chief minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, will be in the nation’s capital today as Congress gathers to choose the new chief minister following the party’s resounding victory in the state.

Top Karnataka CM contenders Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah will meet the party’s leadership, which will change the focus of the lobbying in Delhi.

Randeep Surjewala, KC Venugopal, and three other observers chosen by the party to monitor the selection of a chief minister will also arrive in Delhi today.

The AICC has appointed Sushil Kumar Shinde, a former chief minister of Maharashtra, Deepak Bawaria, and Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, a current general secretary, as observers in Karnataka.

The Vokkaliga group is lobbying for DK Shivakumar, the tallest politician in the state, as the competition for the position of Karnataka’s chief minister intensifies. Vokkaligas make about 16% of Karnataka’s population and are the second most powerful caste after Lingayats.
