Shillong, May 22: Strict security measures are in place throughout the Kashmir Valley as Srinagar prepares to host the G20 working group meeting on tourism starting on Monday.

Since the Central government repealed Article 370 and divided Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh into two Union Territories in 2019, the G20 summit in Srinagar is the state of Jammu and Kashmir’s first significant international event.

Security personnel have been placed on high alert following information that suggests terrorist groups may be planning an attack on behalf of Pakistan’s ISI intelligence agency during the G20 summit. To protect themselves from potential threats from terrorists in Srinagar, security personnel on duty for the G20 conference would wear unique identification passes.

All of the roadways that participants will use to travel to the meeting at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) will be patrolled by security personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The gathering is anticipated to draw at least 60 delegates.

According to officials, the National Security Guard (NSG) and Marine Commandos are assisting the police and paramilitary forces in securing the event’s venue.
