Shillong, June 15: Karnataka’s Congress government announced on Thursday that it has excluded the lesson on Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the founder of RSS, from the textbooks as part of its ongoing textbook revision exercise. This decision is expected to stir controversy, as the BJP has expressed its opposition to any changes made to the syllabus.

During a press conference following the cabinet meeting, Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa stated that the changes implemented by the previous BJP government have been reversed. He emphasized that the government’s focus is on prioritizing the best interests of the students, and as a result, modifications have been made to Kannada textbooks for grades 6 to 10, as well as social science textbooks for the same grades.

Bangarappa assured that the revised textbooks will be swiftly distributed to students within a span of fewer than 10 days. When questioned about the specific lessons that have been removed, he confirmed that all the additional lessons introduced by the previous BJP government have been eliminated. One such example is the lesson on Hedgewar, which has been dropped.

He further criticized the BJP for incorporating identical content into the syllabus and accused them of manipulation. The government intends to retain the syllabus that was in place prior to the revision conducted by the BJP government.
