SHILLONG: The murder case of one Robi Thangkhiew took a new turn when a complaint lodged by his wife, Ibanylla Snaitang much after her husband’s death alleging him of molesting her and her 11-year-old daughter at Mawprem in June was found to have been fabricated only to protect her brother, Kerlang Snaitang, who was the main accused.
According to the police, the complaint lodged by Ibanylla Snaitang against her dead husband at Lumdiengjri PS recently was registered but later, it was found out that the complaint was fabricated.
“The complaint lodged by Snaitang involving her own minor daughter to be the victim of molestation turned out to be false as it was done with an intention to protect her brother who has already surrendered before the police days after stabbing his own brother-in-law,” a senior police official said here on Friday.
Thangkhiew was stabbed by his brother-in-law, Kerlang Snaitang (Bahrit) at Khlieh Iewduh (Basa Dohkha) on August 13 at around 4 pm. As a result, the victim sustained major injuries on his back and shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital. He was later shifted to NEIGRIHMS on the same night as his health deteriorated and died on August 18.
Interestingly, after a few days, Ibanylla Snaitang wanted to withdraw the FIR filed against her dead husband for which the police have rejected her plea. “We will not withdraw this case and we will carry on with the investigation,” police sources said.
Meanwhile, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing while condemning the murder of Thangkhiew by his own brother-in-law said that the manner in which the case was filed by a dead person’s wife and later seeking withdrawal of the same is suspicious.
“It is a very dangerous trend for a woman to misuse the act and fabricate things just to land up someone in trouble, to the extent of causing the life of a person when the same could be sought out at home,” Kharshiing said adding that punishment should be leveled against Snaitang for misusing the Act and bringing her own minor daughter into the picture.
