Shillong, September 4: Samsung Electronics is set to incorporate generative artificial intelligence (AI) features into its home appliances next year, as revealed by Yoo Mi-young, head of the software development team in Samsung’s digital appliances division, during the IFA tech trade show in Berlin.

As per IANS, the company aims to enhance the user experience in home appliances by applying generative AI technologies to aspects such as voice, vision, and display. This will enable household electronic products to better understand and respond to consumer needs and preferences. Home gadgets will become more conversational with users and provide responses based on past interactions and context.

Furthermore, these appliances will have improved visual recognition capabilities, allowing them to identify items in the oven or refrigerator, leading to tailored recipe suggestions and dietary recommendations.

Samsung is also working on a chipset designed to reduce energy consumption as smart home devices become more intelligent and process large volumes of data. The goal is for home appliances equipped with generative AI to consume less than 0.1 watt for every 24 hours of operation.

Yoo emphasized that European consumers, in particular, are increasingly recognizing the benefits of interconnected and energy-efficient devices, which can contribute to energy savings and reduced electricity bills.

In terms of AI technology development, Samsung maintains a strong commitment to three core principles: fairness, transparency, and accountability.

Samsung initiated its smart home efforts in 2014 with the acquisition of SmartThings, an open platform for the Internet of Things headquartered in Washington.
