SHILLONG, Sep 4: Opposition Congress has expressed discontentment over the short duration of the upcoming autumn session of the Meghalaya Assembly scheduled to begin from September 15.
Congress leader and Opposition Chief Whip, Saleng Sangma, said that duration of five days for the session is too short and in such a short time, public grievances cannot be discussed as there several issues that need to be discussed.
“Assembly is the only place where we can highlight the public grievances not only from our constituencies but throughout the state,” he said.
He added that issues like Job Reservation Policy, interstate border dispute with Assam and even matters concerning education sector need to be discussed in detail.
According to the Congress leader, the session should at least span over 15-20 days.
It may however be mentioned that regardless of the duration, the opposition camp is gearing itself to corner the MDA 2.0 Government on a host of issues. As such, the five-day autumn session of the Assembly is set to be a stormy one.
The issues that are likely to hog the limelight are impasse over the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the recurring interstate border skirmishes.
