TURA, Sep 6: South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner RP Marak on Wednesday convened a meeting with the market committees from the district to restrict the open and unhygienic display of meat on the road sides.
During the meeting, the DC explained to the market committee representatives that the open display of meat and meat parts by meat sellers/vendors on the roadsides is not only a disgustful sight but also unhygienic. He also said that non-compliance of High Court order would amount to contempt of court and lead to legal consequences.
The ADC (Judicial), Y.W Momin informed that an appeal in this regard has been issued to all the respective market committees about two months earlier. He also informed that a team of AH & Veterinary officials have also made rounds of inspections to all the meat sellers in the district to ensure that meat and animal parts are sold in enclosed spaces.
