Meghalaya ANTF seize suspected heroin for tourists vehicles

Jowai, Sept 15: Acting on a tip-off received this morning the ANTF team along with staff of Umtyra Check gate and Khliehriat Police Station conducted checking at Nongsning under the command of Banraplang Jyrwa, Additional Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills at around 8:30 am and two tourists’ vehicles were detained.

During the search of the first vehicle (Tata Sumo ML-05-M-1597) in the presence of independent witnesses, four soap boxes containing yellowish orange powder with a net weight of 43.33 gms were recovered and while during the search of the second vehicle (Tata Sumo MZ-01-K-3872), 44 soap boxes containing yellowish orange powder with a net weight of 516.43 gms were recovered.

Preliminary test was conducted which indicated positive for heroin. The contraband was then seized, packed and sealed in the presence of independent witnesses. In this regard the police apprehended Lorence Zomuanpuia (32 yrs) S/o R. Rosangzuala, R/o  Assam Bazar, ARC, Shillong and Lalmalsawa (36 yrs) S/o  Sheloder R/o  Hunthar veng, Aizawl, Mizoram.

In this regard, a case under appropriate sections of NDPS Act is being registered at Khliehriat PS and investigation is on to trace the backward and forward linkages.
