SHILLONG: Chancellor of scam-ridden CMJ University, Chandra Mohan Jha, has come under the scanner yet again for dodging the CID interrogation and escaping to Bihar on some pretext.

Jha had sent a mail to the CID on September 22 stating that he had to rush to Bihar to attend to his ailing wife.

The CID was waiting for Jha to appear before the Investigating Officer, but in vain as Jha checked out of the Pinewood Hotel in the city at 11 am on September 21 and left for Bihar.

Supreme Court lawyer Ranjan Mukherjee, who represented the State Government during the hearing on the case in the apex court on Friday, informed over phone that the authorities had verified from the Superintendent of Police of Madhubani, Bihar, that CM Jha’s wife had not been admitted in any of the hospitals there.

The petition of the Meghalaya CID challenging the interim bail of Jha was taken up on Friday in the Supreme Court.

Mukherjee informed that Jha,  through his attorney, had conveyed to the Court that he had appeared before the CID on September 19, 20, 21 and answered all the questions.

The Supreme Court, however, asked Mukherjee and State Government lawyers Mukherjee and Additional Solicitor General of India Siddharth Luthra – who appeared on behalf of the Government – to file an affidavit in support of additional documents to prove that Jha was not cooperating with the CID to complete the probe.

The matter will come up for hearing again on October 8.
