Met office predicts heavy rain across NE states

Guwahati, Nov 14: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) here on Tuesday predicted moderate to isolated heavy rain across Northeast for four consecutive days from Wednesday.

“Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over the South Andaman Sea, a low pressure area has formed over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman-Nicobar Islands at 5.30 pm on Monday. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal on November 15, 2023,” a statement issued by the RMC said on Tuesday evening.

“Thereafter, it will move northwestwards and may intensify into a deep depression over west-central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast on November 16. Subsequently, it will recurve north-northeast wards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast on November 17,” it said.

According to the current meteorological condition, the Met office has forecast light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Wednesday; light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday besides light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall over Mizoram and south Tripura on Thursday.

“Light to moderate rainfall might occur at a few places with isolated heavy rainfall over districts of south Assam and East Meghalaya on November 17. Light to moderate rainfall might occur at most places with isolated heavy rainfall over Tripura, Mizoram and south Manipur,” the Met office predicted.

Besides, it has forecast light to moderate rainfall at a few places with isolated heavy rainfall over districts of south Assam on November 18. “Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Tripura, Mizoram and south Manipur,” it added.
