BSF foils smuggling bids

SHILLONG, Dec 2: The BSF Meghalaya on Friday intercepted a vehicle with bags of sugar meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh while the driver was apprehended as he failed to produce valid documents concerning the consignment, a statement here informed.
The vehicle was stopped by the Mobile Check Post (MCP) party from Sonapur as it traversed the Lumshnong – Sonapur road toward Lailong – Harai road in East Jaintia Hills.
The bags of sugar were craftily concealed under a layer of sand and transported under the guise of an NBCC goods carrier.
In a separate operation, troops of BSF Meghalaya intercepted and confiscated various miscellaneous items valued at over Rs 28 Lakhs, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
The arrested individuals and the seized items were promptly handed over to PS-Umkiang for further legal action.
