Shillong, Dec 13: The NEHU Academic Council on Wednesday unanimously decided to include representatives from NEHUSU as members of the council but the decision came only after some high drama as the students’ body launched a protest.
NEHUSU members registered a protest by barging into the Academic Council meeting after realising that some of the concerns of the students that were to be listed in the meeting’s agenda as promised by Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla were missing.
The NEHUSU even threatened to stop the meeting of the AC if their agenda were not discussed. Following the threat, the VC and the AC members agree to deliberate on their demands.
NEHSUSU finance secretary, Mandor Diengdoh Swer said later that their first demand for inclusion of NEHUSU in the AC was unanimously agreed upon.
“On our second demand of reforming the EBA, the AC passed a resolution to constitute a committee to look into the matter and come up with a decision,” Swer said.
On their third demand of reforming the marking system, he said the VC assured them that as soon as the committee on the marking system comes up with a new policy, a fresh AC meeting would be called to take a final call.
Swer said chairperson of the marking committee, Prof Desmond Kharmawphlang has assured them that the committee would discuss and come up with a proposal during the winter break so as to resolve the issue at the earliest.
