Guwahati, Dec 29: The Assam Trinamool Congress is launching an intensive campaign for the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) elections in Dima Hasao district, with influential party leaders set to participate in what promises to be a high-stakes political showdown.

Assam TMC president Congress and former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora will launch the party’s campaign on Saturday and also unveil the party’s election manifesto at an event in Haflong. This was informed by Assam TMC general secretary Tarit Chatterjee during a media conference at the Dima Hasao district Trinamool Congress office on Friday.

Chatterjee further informed that several high-profile leaders are taking part in the party’s campaign for the elections.

Elections to 28 constituencies in Dima Hasao district are scheduled on January 8, 2024.

The Assam TMC had, last week, announced the names of candidates for 12 constituencies in the hill district.

“Assam Trinamool Congress is actively committing to the election battle, with a lineup of prominent leaders fervently campaigning for the party candidate. Joining President Ripun Bora on the campaign trail are noteworthy figures such as Sushmita Dev, a Trinamool Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha MP, and Shanta Chhetri, All India Trinamool Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha MP,” Chatterjee said.

Pompondao Langthasa, the Trinamool Congress candidate for Dihangi constituency, informed during the media conference that copies of the election manifesto would be distributed by Dima Hasao district president Aching Zeme and Assam TMC president Ripun Bora at Haflong market after the poll manifesto release ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

The party leaders will also interact with traders in the market and address their issues and concerns.
