TURA, Jan 10: Incomplete and abandoned important projects in Garo Hills compelled an organisation to file for an RTI and complain to the chief minister.
The AHAM, Adokgre unit in North Garo Hills on Wednesday apprised Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of the two incomplete projects in the area – one which has been long abandoned and another which is pending despite the project going on for years.
The projects in question are the construction of the Ildek A’kong RCC Bridge and the A’dokgre-Mangsang road.
The organisation, in its complaint to the chief minister, pointed out that the former is the main bridge along the Adokgre-Mangsang road the construction of which began in 2019.
However, it was abandoned without any further work midway. An RTI revealed that the initial budget allocated for the bridge was Rs 12,29,89,000.
The whole A’dokgre-Mangsang road project, the organisation in addition to resenting its slow progress also expressed disappointment over the depreciation of its budget.
According to the organisation, the said road project which is the largest in the entire Garo Hills carried an initial sanction of Rs 210 crore which was ultimately reduced to Rs 123 crore by the government.
Pointing out that the road project is crucial for the people of the region, AHAM demanded that the government reconsider the reduction of budget and complete the same with the original amount at the earliest.
