Manipur arms loot case: CBI files chargesheet against 5 accused

Guwahati, Jan 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against five accused persons before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro) here in a case related to loot of arms and ammunition from Manipur Police Training College (MPTC), Pangei in Imphal in May last year.

The apex investigation agency registered the said case on June 9, 2023 by taking over the investigation of FIR number 54(5)2023 dated May 4, 2023, registered at Heingang Police Station in Imphal East, in compliance of the notifications issued by the Manipur government and the central government under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act (DSPE Act), 1946.

As alleged in the FIR, a mob had stormed into the MPTC Pangei complex on May 4, 2023 and looted a huge number of arms and ammunition from the police training college’s armoury during the ethnic conflict which broke out in Manipur at that time. Further investigation is on, sources said.

“The findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under Indian law, accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial,” an official statement said.
