Shillong, February 1: The Indian Navy has shared a compelling video showcasing its successful rescue operation of 19 Pakistani crew members who were held captive by armed Somali pirates following the hijacking of their ship off the east coast of Somalia.

As per India Today, the viral video circulating on social media captures the poignant moment when the Pakistani crew bid farewell to the Indian Navy personnel, expressing gratitude for their rescue from the clutches of Somali pirates. An Indian Navy official reassured them with a heartfelt message, saying, “Bye bye, aaram se jaana” (Bye bye, travel safely), as the vessel carrying the relieved Pakistanis sailed away.

The operation involved INS Sumitra, previously engaged in thwarting a piracy attempt on the Iranian-flagged vessel MV Iman. The Navy redeployed INS Sumitra to locate and intercept Al Naeemi, another Iranian-flagged vessel, which had fallen prey to pirates, resulting in the hostage situation.

In a video shared by the Indian Navy on social media, a Pakistani crew member detailed the harrowing experience of their ship being hijacked by Somali pirates. The crew expressed their relief when INS Sumitra, a formidable Indian Navy warship, approached, causing the pirates to surrender.

India Today reported that the rescued Pakistani crew members, visibly grateful, conveyed their thanks to the Indian Navy personnel with a thumbs-up gesture. One of them expressed their deep appreciation, saying, “Thank you. Aapne hamara jaan bachaaya” (Thank you. You saved our lives).

Highlighting the commitment to maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) in alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision of SAGAR, a Navy spokesperson affirmed the ongoing efforts of Indian Naval warships deployed in the IOR. Their mission remains dedicated to ensuring security against all maritime threats, safeguarding the seas for mariners of diverse nationalities.
