SHILLONG: Young RTI activist Alaric Lyngdoh has clarified that the Dorbar Shnong of Laitkor Rngi has not directly issued warnings to him but the message was conveyed to him through his well-wishers who advised him not to come home on Tuesday, fearing that the whole situation might take an ugly turn.

In his statement, Lyngdoh said that the ever since the hearing on Tuesday, the Dorbar Shnong has kept mum on the issue and there was no such intimidation between him and the Dorbar Shnong. “The information on the decision taken by the Shnong to ostracize me and my family was passed on to me by my well-wishers as I wasn’t present there,” Lyngdoh said.

Lyngdoh had filed an FIR with the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang on Tuesday stating that the Rangbah Shnong in the presence of the Nongkrem MLA, Ardent Basaiawmoit had decided to ostracize him from the village during a meeting held on Tuesday.

Lyngdoh, who became a victim of harassment for filing RTI seeking information on the progress of the construction of an internal road at Laitkor Rngi, had even sought the protection of the district administration on Wednesday.

Lyngdoh, who met the Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal on Wednesday, sought the protection of the District Administration in this connection while asking him to keep track of cases where RTI activists are harassed by the Dorbar and other groups in many places especially in rural areas.
