SHILLONG: The Seng Samla Shnong Shilliang Umkhen has sought the interference of the Union Health Minister and secretary of Medical Council of India in the alleged illegal circumcision committed by three doctors of NEIGRIHMS recently.

In a memorandum submitted to the Union Health minister recently, the Seng Samla Shnong Shilliang Umkhen apprised the Union Minister of the alleged unethical and illegal action of circumcision by three medical doctors of NEIGRIHMS on 13 minor boys.

According to memorandum, the continued service of the three doctors-Dr Habib Md Reazul Karim (Urologist), Dr Syed Wasim Hassan (Anaesthetist) and Dr Mhd. Yunus (Anaesthetist), and running of Meherbaan orphanage would provide the accused the chance to tamper with the evidences and records adding that the lackadaisical response of the concerned authorities to the matter will obviously encourage such people to continue using the institute and those upon whom, the public look for proactive action.

In this connection, the traditional youth body has demanded the government to take immediate disciplinary action against the three doctors including de-registering them by removing their respective licenses as medical practitioners and dismissing them from service. They have also demanded for immediate action on Meherbaan Orphanage which ulterior motive to run an orphanage is a disguise to proselytize coercively and even shockingly besides asking the government to take action against the management of the institute for allowing the three doctors to serve the institute claiming that “They are still hiding under the cloak of the magisterial enquiry.”

Further, they also demanded for the constitution of a time bound judicial enquiry and magisterial enquiry while suggesting that the matter should be handover to the CB
