TURA: Police remain tight lipped over the case of an MLA’s personal security officer (PSO) who went missing last week even as speculations are ripe about his possible desertion to join a Garo militant group.

When PSO Hubert Marak failed to report for duty on Sunday morning along with two government licensed weapons, the Kharkutta MLA Omillo K Sangma, to whom he was deputed, promptly filed a complaint with police.

The MLA was scheduled to head for Shillong with his PSO but in view of his disappearance proceeded to the state capital without any security.

The PSO hails from Warima locality of Williamnagar but was married in Resu Kaldang locality. Both places are believed to be favourite for recruitment into GNLA militant group.

The PSO was deputed for security duty with the MLA from Shillong and had in his possession a service revolver and a semi automatic carbine machine gun.

“We do not know whether he has joined the militants or gone unannounced for some personal works,” said a police officer.
