SHILLONG, April 15: The KSU Laban Circle has decided to write to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong questioning the extreme steps taken by Laban Police in a case involving a “minor scuffle” between two groups in the locality on April 12.
KSU Laban Circle president, Reuben Najiar on Monday said police personnel went to the house of one of the youth who was assaulted and asked him to narrate the incident.
Najiar claimed that police registered a suo-motu FIR since the assaulted youth had refused to lodge a formal complaint and arrested some Khasi youth on Friday and booked them under sections of the IPC for attempted murder and kidnapping.
“We had gone to the police station to inquire and they stated that they had to take stringent action due to the upcoming elections,” he said.
“How can police book them under sections of heinous crimes when it was only a minor scuffle,” Najiar questioned. The arrested youth were granted bail on Saturday after the victim told the court that it was a minor scuffle.
The KSU leader also asked the police to take action against those who spread the rumour that a person had been stabbed in Laban.
