Meghalayans propel SC B’luru, Dempo SC to I-League promotion

Shillong, April 28: Sporting Club Bengaluru and Dempo SC have clinched promotion to the upcoming I-League 2024-25 season, with Meghalayans playing pivotal roles in both teams’ successes.
Shaiborlang Kharpan contributed significantly to SC Bengaluru’s triumph in the I-League 2, securing the club’s maiden qualification for the I-League. Their stellar performance, with 11 victories out of 14 matches and a total of 33 points, marked a historic milestone for the club.Meanwhile, Dempo SC, led by a resilient squad, secured a return to the I-League after a nine-year hiatus. Needing a crucial point against third-placed Sudeva Delhi on the final day, the Goan side rallied from behind to clinch a 3-1 victory, sealing their place in the top tier of Indian football once again.
Assisting Dempo SC in their promotion bid were Knerktilang Buam and Owanijuh Pajuh, whose standout performances in the I-League 3 last year caught the attention of the club management.
Buam and Pajuh’s contributions were instrumental as Dempo finished the season with 27 points, securing promotion ahead of Sudeva Delhi.The relegation to I-League 3 for Mumbai Kenkre FC and Maharashtra Oranje FC highlights the competitive nature of Indian football at the club level.
Shaiborlang Kharpan’s notable performances, including two goals and two Player of the Match awards, underscore his significance in SC Bengaluru’s campaign.Knerktilang Buam’s consistent presence in Dempo’s starting lineup, along with his impactful performances, earned him recognition as a key player.
Similarly, Owanijuh Pajuh’s contributions, despite limited playing time, played a crucial role in Dempo’s successful promotion bid.The journey of these Meghalayans from local tournaments to national leagues exemplifies their talent.
