SHILLONG, May 13: The Upper Shillong Circle of the FKJGP warned of drastic steps if the state government allots government land to the owner of the Anjalee petrol pump as compensation for vacating the premises for a road expansion project.
The circle’s president, Kitboklang Nongphlang criticised Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Alexander Laloo Hek for defending the government’s decision to allot government land to a private individual.
“We do not want the government to set a wrong precedent,” he said on Monday.
He said the Upper Shillong Circle of the FKJGP will not allow the petrol pump owner to take possession of the government land in Upper Shillong to set up a fuel outlet.
“We are firm about not letting this happen,” he said.
Nongphlang said the federation is disappointed that its members were not called for a discussion even after it opposed the decision to allot government land.
On May 9, the FKJGP’s Upper Shillong and Upper Shillong circles and the Synjuk Nongsynshar Shnong of Upper Shillong opposed the move to allot compensatory land to the non-tribal owner of the Anjalee petrol pump.
“The government normally pays compensation for acquiring privately owned land. What is so special that government land needs to be awarded in this case?” Nongphlang asked.
Pointing out that the total area of the Anjalee petrol pump will not be more than 2,500 sq. ft, he said there is no justification for allotting 13,500 sq. ft of government land in Upper Shillong as compensation.
“We have documents to prove that the government has allotted this much land,” he said.
He clarified that the FKJGP is not against the move to relocate the petrol pump for widening the road from Umshyrpi to its present site.
