SHILLONG, May 13: Meghalaya BJP spokesperson and retired IPS officer, Mariahom Kharkrang on Monday expressed concern over the frequent cases of arson attacks targeting police vehicles and government properties.
Kharkrang said the citizens of the state are concerned over the law-and-order situation. “These attacks brings a sense of insecurity in the minds of the people and paints a negative picture about the state,” he said.
On May 2, miscreants lobbed petrol bombs at the Shillong Sadar police station and Rynjah police stations. There have been nearly six such incidents of petrol bomb attacks including on a government office in Kench’s Trace, a NEEPCO official’s escort in Demthring and the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar at Nongmensong.
Kharkrang pointed out that due to such incidents tourists would have second thoughts about visiting the state.
Kharkrang noted that the Police department is run by efficient people and have all the resources at their disposal.
He urged the Police to act firmly against such criminal acts.
