SHILLONG, May 23: As the Meghalaya government waits for the lifting of the model code of conduct (MCC), it has also conveyed plans of notifying the name of the new Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) along with the Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW), which was announced earlier.
“We have already identified the chief of child rights commission as well as the women’s commission and also the Mission Director of DREAM project. The only thing that is holding us from notifying their names is the MCC,” Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said on Thursday.
Asked for the names, he said, “It will not be fair unless we notify.”
It may be mentioned that the post of the MSCW Chairperson has been vacant for almost a year following the resignation of Phidalia Toi in June last year.
With regard to the Chairperson of SCPCR, Lyngdoh said, “We have already gone through the process of shortlisting, and have identified the new incumbent but we will notify after June 4.”
