TURA, June 4: The Nokrek Area Development Committee (NADC) on Tuesday expressed disappointment over the incomplete construction of an RMSA school in South Garo Hills and has urged the contractor concerned to complete the same at the earliest.
The school in question is the under construction RMSA school building at Durama Wa’gegittok.
According to a reply by the Education Department to an RTI application filed by the group, the work for construction of the school building was allotted to a contractor from RC Road in Tura for an amount of Rs 1,11,17,000. The work order was given in December 2021 with a 12 months’ timeframe for its completion.
“The contractor concerned has already withdrawn an amount of Rs 34,27,535 with the RTI reply stating that 45% of the work has been completed. The construction of the school building, which began in 2022, was abandoned in September 2023. It has been 9 months since work was abandoned but there are still no signs of resuming the construction,” the NADC said.
According to the committee, a visit paid to the construction site in June 3 along with the South Garo Hills Inspector of Schools revealed that only 30% of the work has been completed. While the actual contractor who was allotted the work was not present at the time, the sub contractor assured them in writing that the construction would be completed.
“We are giving it time for the assurance to be fulfilled. But if it does not materialise, we will take a new course of action,” the group warned.
