ICAR, KVK organise live-stream of PM-KISAN fund release

SHILLONG, June 18: The ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ri-Bhoi, hosted a live-streaming event for the release of the 17th instalment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme. This central flagship scheme, launched in February 2019, provides Rs 6,000 annually to eligible landholding farmers, directly deposited into their accounts.
The event’s chief guest, Satish Chandra Dubey, Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, was joined by Arpit Upadhyaya, Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, and representatives from the Agriculture department. The gathering included a large number of farmers, scientists, and KVK staff at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region.
Director in-charge of ATARI, Umiam, Dr AK Singha, highlighted the various activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and future plans, emphasising KVKs’ commitment to the social and financial sustainability of the farming community. Director of the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Dr VK Mishra, noted the institute’s long history of collaboration with farmers and its celebration of its golden jubilee this year.
During his address, Union MoS Satish Chandra Dubey discussed the smooth flow of funds from the PM-KISAN scheme and urged government departments to address any obstacles faced by farmers. He also distributed agricultural inputs such as sprayers, pumps, and automated weeding machines.
Dubey elaborated on the financial benefits already transferred to farmers’ accounts through the PM-KISAN scheme and those to be released. He highlighted other government initiatives that have significantly benefited the farming community. Emphasising the “vocal for local” initiative, he encouraged farmers to promote their local products nationwide. He concluded by expressing gratitude to the farmers for their substantial attendance at the event.
