TURA, June 19: The town of Phulbari in West Garo Hills is currently reeling under darkness in the wake of heavy rainfall, erratic power supply and frequent disruptions caused by Feedback Energy Distribution Company Limited (FEDCO), leaving the local community in despair and chaos.
Two organisations from the region, viz. ACHIK, North West Zone, and Centre for Environment Protection and Rural Development (CEPARD) have taken up the matter with Power Minister and local MLA AT Mondal, seeking swift and effective solutions to ease the suffering of the people from the area.
“The area has been plunged into total darkness. Particularly affected are students preparing for their half-yearly exams, lactating mothers, children and senior citizens. The situation has become untenable for these vulnerable groups,” ACHIK chairman Francwell Ch Marak informed.
“We hope that through our efforts, the affected residents of Phulbari can soon experience a more reliable and stable power supply, allowing them to carry out their daily activities without unnecessary disruptions,” CEPARD president Samgar R Sangma added.
