SHILLONG, July 7: The state is witnessing a drop in the percentage of the Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses in the Power department, thanks to the implementation of loss-reduction programmes.
As per statistics, the AT&C losses were 25.95 per cent in 2021-22 and 24.5 per cent in 2022-23 and it has come down to 19.50 per cent in 2023-24.
The concept of AT&C losses provides a realistic picture of loss situation in the context it is measured. It is a combination of energy loss (technical loss + theft + inefficiency in billing) & commercial loss (default in payment + inefficiency in collection).
“We have to work further to see that the losses come down. Once that happens it will help the utility to survive,” Power Minister AT Mondal told The Shillong Times on Sunday.
He said the department is reviewing the losses and examining the grey areas.
“We are finding the grey areas and analysing them. We are also trying to plug the leakages and I do hope that with the new initiative, the losses will come down further,” he added.
The minister also pointed out that the percentage of AT&C loss is on the higher side in Garo Hills.
