JHADC deletes Jowai Central constituency; debate today

JOWAI, Aug 7: The JHADC has proposed deletion of the Jowai Central constituency, while also deciding to create a new constituency called Nangbah-Mihmyntdu during the Council’s special session on Wednesday.
The Chief Executive Member (CEM) Thombor Shiwat introduced the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of District Council) Amendment Bill 2024, which revealed crucial delimitation changes.
The CEM said this in accordance with the Constitution Rules, 1951, which has already authorised the Delimitation Committee of JHADC to collect statistics on the division of the 29 constituencies.
After the introduction of the Bill, several MDCs have expressed the need to discuss the Bill on Thursday. JHADC Chairman Dr Sanki Shangpung declared the session would continue tomorrow before approval of the Bill.
The 29 constituencies include War-East, War-Central, War-West, Amwi-Khliehtyrshi, Mukhla-Ummulong, Moodymmai-Nongkhroh, Nartiang-Wahiajer, Moodop-Umladang, Mynso-Nongjngi, Mynsngat-Khanduli, ShilliangMyntang, Barato-Mukroh, Saphai-Sahsniang, Mowkaiaw, Raliang, Shangpung, Nangbah-Mihmyntdu, Jowai-North, Jowai-South, Muthlong-Sohkymphor, Tuber-Wapungshnong, Musniang-Rangad, Rymbai-Khliehriat, Sutnga-Narwan, Sutnga-Nongkhlieh, Sumer, Saipung-Nongkhlieh, Narpuh and Bataw-Lakadong constituencies.
