SHILLONG:  Shillong Diocese Archbishop Dominic Jala has urged both the State government and pro-ILP pressure groups to engage in dialogue to end the impasse.
“I know that the State has passed through tough time in the current year. But I hope that this Christmas and New Year would be a new beginning towards restoring normalcy in the State,” Jala said in a statement here on Tuesday.
“Both Government and pro-ILP pressure groups should sit for dialogues to deliberate on the issues which concern the State. Both the parties should have an open mind by shedding their egos,” Jala said.
He felt that in 2013 there was “no openness” on the part of the state government as well as the agitating groups that is primarily responsible for the breakdown of law and order in the State.
However, he hoped, 2014 will see a new chapter where both the state government and the pressure groups will discuss issues with an open mind for creating an atmosphere of peace and harmony in the state.
While extending his Christmas and New Year greetings to the people of the state cutting across religion and language, Jala that the state had seen orgy of violence during the 2013 and hoped that 2014 would usher in real peace that goes beyond hostilities and violence.
