BSF seizes over 800 cattle, 2,310 tonnes sugar since January

SHILLONG, Sep 14: Continuing its crackdown on illegal transborder activities, the Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya Frontier, has seized more than 800 cattle and 2,310 tonnes of sugar along the porous Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya by thwarting smuggling attempts since January 2024.
In another similar case, troops of BSF Meghalaya Frontier on Friday confiscated 64 cattle along the Indo-Bangla border in Bangladesh, which were reportedly being smuggled to the neighbouring country.
According to a statement here, based on specific inputs, the BSF troops conducted a special operation near the international border and rescued the cattle hidden in a jungle area.
The seized cattle were then handed over to the concerned police station for further action.
Meanwhile, in another operation, BSF troops seized 12,000 kg of sugar loaded in three Bolero pickups, intended for being smuggled into Bangladesh through the international border of East Khasi Hills.
